AWS Veteran Jon Jones Takes Helm of AWS Startups, Succeeding Howard Wright

Jon Jones, formerly the vice president of GTM for AWS Products and Services, has been appointed as the new vice president and global head of AWS Startups. He succeeds Howard Wright, who departed earlier this year to assume the role of vice president of the startup ecosystem at NVIDIA.

Jones holds extensive experience in the tech industry, having previously established Google’s inaugural US startup accelerator and founded Markoza, a startup specializing in sales development and IT consulting.

This year, AWS announced a substantial investment of $230 million in generative AI startups, including funding for the AWS Generative AI Accelerator. Jones recently spoke at the Accelerator’s second cohort’s kick-off event in Seattle alongside AWS CEO Matt Garman and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.

Amidst these developments, videoconferencing behemoth Zoom has made a significant hire by appointing Michelle Cheng as its new CFO. Cheng brings over two decades of leadership experience from Microsoft, where she held the role of CFO and corporate vice president of the Commercial Sales & Partner Organization.

Zoom CEO Eric Yuan highlighted Cheng’s reputation as a values-driven leader with a proven ability to foster growth and empower talent. Cheng will succeed Kelly Steckelberg, who is departing after seven years with the company.

In a LinkedIn post, Cheng expressed her excitement for Zoomtopia, an upcoming event, and indicated that she will have the flexibility to work remotely or utilize Zoom’s Seattle office, in accordance with the company’s hybrid work policy implemented last year.
