Grant Goodale Joins Ryder as Chief Product and Technology Officer, Bridging Digital Innovation and Logistics

Former Convoy co-founder Grant Goodale has taken on a new role as chief product and technology officer at Florida-based logistics company Ryder, marking his return to the transportation industry. The announcement came Tuesday as Goodale shared his career move on LinkedIn.

The transition follows Goodale’s previous position as CTO at Seattle-based Convoy, a trucking marketplace startup that reached a valuation of nearly $4 billion before ceasing operations in 2023. His new opportunity arose when Andrew Berberick, who co-founded Baton, a logistics technology company acquired by Ryder in 2022, reached out regarding the position.

“The team was looking for someone to fill Andrew’s sizable shoes,” Goodale explained in his LinkedIn post. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to his professional passion – combining cutting-edge technology with the logistics industry that underlies modern commerce.

While maintaining his Seattle base, Goodale brings extensive experience from his time at Convoy, which he co-founded in 2015 alongside former Amazon colleague Dan Lewis. During his tenure at Convoy, Goodale initially served as CTO before transitioning to chief experience officer, a role he held until stepping down in 2023. The startup, which developed software to connect truckers with shippers, had attracted investment from prominent figures including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos before being acquired by Flexport.

Notably, his former Convoy co-founder Dan Lewis has also made a significant career move, joining Microsoft as chief product officer earlier this year.

Ryder, which reported revenue of $12.6 billion last year – a 7% increase – established a presence in Silicon Valley in 2023 following its acquisition of Baton, a company focused on improving trucking efficiency.

In other industry movements, Seattle-based e-commerce startup Shipium has promoted Geoff Tamman to the position of chief financial officer. Tamman, who joined the company in 2022, previously held the role of vice president of finance and operations after spending more than 12 years at Amazon.

Additionally, Graham & Walker, a venture capital firm based in Seattle, has welcomed Ryan Hughes as its new chief of staff. Hughes, who will work from New York City, brings experience from nearly five years at Goldman Sachs. The firm’s founder, Leslie Feinzaig, had previously detailed the traditional hiring approach used to fill this position.

These personnel changes reflect ongoing dynamics in the Pacific Northwest’s technology sector, particularly in the logistics and e-commerce spaces. The movement of experienced executives between established companies and startups continues to shape the region’s business landscape, with many leaders leveraging their expertise in new roles across different organizations.

Goodale’s move to Ryder represents a significant development in the logistics technology sector, bringing together his experience in digital innovation with a traditional transportation company that has been expanding its technological capabilities. His transition comes at a time when the logistics industry continues to undergo digital transformation, with established players increasingly embracing technology-driven solutions to enhance their operations and service offerings.
