Impact Laboratories Secures $4.9 Million in Funding to Revolutionize Laboratory Sustainability Worldwide

A Spokane-based environmental verification company has secured $4.9 million in Series A funding to expand its mission of certifying sustainable practices in laboratory settings worldwide. Impact Laboratories, which works alongside nonprofit My Green Lab, currently oversees sustainability certifications for approximately 3,800 laboratories across the globe.

The company specializes in providing third-party verification services for My Green Lab certification programs and offers software solutions to help scientific facilities achieve and maintain their environmental certifications. Additionally, Impact Laboratories supports the implementation of ACT labels, a scoring system that evaluates the sustainability of laboratory chemicals, equipment, and supplies.

The funding round attracted several prominent investors, including the Spokane Angel Alliance, Tacoma Venture Fund (TVF), LabX Media, and Greenhouse Capital Partners. This investment represents a significant milestone for both the company and Spokane’s growing technology sector.

Impact Laboratories’ CEO James Connelly, who also leads My Green Lab, emphasized the significance of this funding, stating that it represents a fundamental shift in how scientific research approaches sustainability. The company’s client base spans more than 40 major research institutions across 48 countries, highlighting the global reach of their sustainability initiatives.

The organization’s roots trace back to 2013 when research scientist Allison Paradise established My Green Lab. Paradise, whose background includes work at Harvard University and Leica Microsystems, recognized the need for standardized sustainability practices in laboratory environments, which are known for their substantial resource consumption.

The program’s appeal extends beyond environmental benefits, as participating laboratories often experience significant cost savings through reduced waste, lower energy consumption, and improved operational efficiencies. This dual advantage of environmental protection and economic benefit has helped drive adoption across academic, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical research facilities.

Tom Simpson, who heads the Spokane Angel Alliance, views this investment as a significant achievement for Eastern Washington’s technological development. He noted that Impact Laboratories’ global expansion from its Spokane base demonstrates the maturation of the region’s startup ecosystem and investment community.

The success of Impact Laboratories reflects a growing awareness within the scientific community about the importance of sustainable practices in research settings. Their work involves helping laboratories assess and improve their environmental impact while maintaining the high standards required for scientific research.

Through their certification programs and software solutions, Impact Laboratories enables research facilities to measure and reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining compliance with
international sustainability standards. This systematic approach to greening laboratory operations has proven particularly attractive to institutions looking to align their research practices with broader sustainability goals.

The company’s growth comes at a time when environmental considerations are becoming increasingly central to scientific research operations. The substantial funding round suggests strong investor confidence in the future of sustainable laboratory practices and Impact
Laboratories’ role in advancing this mission.

As research facilities worldwide face mounting pressure to reduce their environmental impact, Impact Laboratories’ services provide a structured pathway toward more sustainable operations. The company’s expansion plans, supported by this new funding, position it to play an even larger role in transforming how scientific research addresses environmental challenges.

The successful funding round also highlights the emergence of Spokane as a hub for environmental technology companies, demonstrating that innovative sustainability solutions can flourish outside traditional tech centers. This development suggests a broadening of the technology landscape in the Pacific Northwest, with Impact Laboratories leading the way in laboratory sustainability certification.
