Jeff Bezos Shatters Washington State Real Estate Record with $63 Million Mansion Sale

Amazon’s billionaire founder Jeff Bezos has sold his luxurious waterfront mansion in Hunts Point, Washington for $63 million, establishing a new record for residential property sales in the state. The transaction, which was first reported by the Puget Sound Business Journal, surpassed the previous Washington state record that Bezos himself set when he purchased the same property for $37.5 million in 2019.

The magnificent estate, located at 4053 Hunts Point Road, was acquired by Cayan Investments LLC, a Delaware corporation established in March with a Medina post office box address. The property was sold through Hunts Point Properties Trust, with attorney Kristine Wilson serving as trustee.

Renowned Seattle architect Jim Olson, of Olson Kundig, designed the 9,420-square-foot residence in 2003. The property was previously owned by luxury travel entrepreneur and art collector Barney Ebsworth until his passing in 2018. According to Olson Kundig’s website, the architectural design seamlessly integrates artistic elements with natural surroundings, creating an understated presence on Lake Washington’s shore.

The estate boasts impressive features including three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and 300 feet of prime west-facing Lake Washington waterfront. Among its notable amenities are a rooftop deck complete with fireplace, an elevator, a dedicated catering kitchen, and a separate two-story guesthouse. A distinctive glass-enclosed shower extending into a Japanese garden adds to the property’s unique character.

Hunts Point, an exclusive enclave near Seattle, is home to several prominent figures in the business world, including former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Costco co-founder James Sinegal. Despite selling this particular property, Bezos maintains ownership of two other properties in the Hunts Point and Medina area: a sprawling
30,000-square-foot Tudor-style mansion purchased for $45 million in 2010, and an adjacent property acquired in 1998 for $10 million.

The sale comes in the wake of Bezos’s November 2023 announcement of his relocation to Florida, where he has recently invested in two adjacent mansions in an exclusive South Florida community, purchasing them for $79 million and $68 million respectively. According to Business Insider’s reporting, some Hunts Point residents noted Bezos’s limited participation in community activities during his time there, including his absence from events such as “Cleanup Day.”

Forbes currently ranks Bezos as the world’s second-wealthiest individual, with a net worth of $198 billion. The sale of his Hunts Point mansion reflects a broader pattern of real estate transactions following his 2019 divorce from MacKenzie Scott. Business Insider has documented Bezos’s significant real estate acquisitions during this period, highlighting his expanding property portfolio across various locations.

The record-breaking sale price of $63 million significantly exceeds the previous Washington state record of $26.75 million, set in 2018 by a Medina property sale. The transaction underscores the continuing appreciation of luxury real estate in the Seattle area’s most prestigious neighborhoods, particularly those offering prime waterfront locations and architectural distinction.
