Doug Bowser, who has served as president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America since 2019, will step down from his position effective December 31, 2025, marking the end of nearly seven years at the helm of the video game company’s American division.

Prior to taking on the role of president, Bowser joined Nintendo in 2015 as vice president of sales and marketing, following previous positions at Procter & Gamble and Electronic Arts. His promotion to president in 2019 came after the departure of former president Reggie Fils-Aimé, sparking playful commentary about his shared name with Mario’s longtime nemesis in Nintendo’s flagship series.

During Bowser’s tenure, Nintendo achieved significant milestones, particularly with the Nintendo Switch console. After being promoted to senior vice president of sales in 2016, Bowser oversaw the Switch’s launch and subsequent success, with the platform reaching over 153 million units sold, securing its place as the third most successful gaming console in history.

The company continued its strong performance under Bowser’s leadership with the recent launch of the Switch 2 in June 2025, alongside a new Mario Kart title. The Switch 2’s debut was particularly noteworthy as it set records for the fastest-selling console launch ever.

“Leading Nintendo of America has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished in both business results and the experiences we’ve created for consumers,” Bowser stated in his official retirement announcement.

Devon Pritchard, currently serving as executive vice president of revenue, marketing, and consumer experience, will succeed Bowser as president. The transition coincides with Pritchard’s 20-year anniversary at Nintendo, where she began her career in 2006\. As part of her new role, Pritchard will also join Nintendo of America’s board of directors.

The leadership change at Nintendo of America’s Redmond, Washington headquarters comes at a time when the company continues to strengthen its position in the global gaming market through successful hardware launches and software releases.
