Revolutionizing Recruitment: Aetheon Secures $1.24 Million to Transform Personal Experiences into Verifiable Skills

Seattle-area startup Aetheon has secured $1.24 million in seed funding for its platform designed to convert personal experiences into employer-recognized competencies.

Established in the previous year, Aetheon is developing what the founders describe as a “skills operating system.” The technology specifically targets military veterans and college graduates, enabling them to articulate their practical experience using terminology that resonates with hiring organizations.

CEO and co-founder Marie Gill explained the company’s mission, stating they are working to establish themselves as the reliable
infrastructure for comprehending, verifying, and deploying skills within today’s evolving labor market.

The platform addresses an increasingly critical challenge in modern recruitment, particularly as artificial intelligence-generated resumes become more prevalent: determining candidates’ genuine capabilities. Aetheon’s system processes information from over 100 occupational databases and cross-references it with a specialized framework encompassing more than 300 competencies. This process creates authenticated profiles that job seekers control and can utilize throughout their career journeys.

Currently, the company has not yet generated revenue and is
concentrating on conducting paid pilot initiatives targeting veteran populations, educational institutions, and corporate clients. According to Gill, interest is emerging from both market
segments—professionals seeking better understanding of their capabilities and institutions searching for more reliable indicators amid challenging recruitment conditions.

Based in the Seattle metropolitan area, Gill previously held executive roles at Executive Networks, Concertus, and Modifi. She currently serves as leader of the Green Apron Alliance, an organization for former Starbucks employees.

Joining Gill as co-founders are Gina Jeneroux, who spent 37 years with BMO Financial Group, and Mark Wayman, an experienced entrepreneur and product development executive.

The capital raised will be allocated toward launching the beta version, growing pilot initiatives with corporate partners, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies, and enhancing the platform’s core data and analytical infrastructure.

The funding round attracted investment from Blue Ash Ventures, alongside a strategic investor located in France and two senior human resources executives based in Hong Kong.

The company represents a response to the growing disconnect between how workers describe their abilities and how employers assess potential hires. By creating standardized, verifiable skill profiles, Aetheon aims to bring clarity to both sides of the employment equation.

The platform’s proprietary taxonomy serves as a translation mechanism, converting varied experiences—whether from military service, academic programs, or other life experiences—into a common language that recruitment professionals can readily interpret and evaluate.

As organizations struggle with talent acquisition and candidates face difficulties articulating their value, Aetheon positions itself as a solution provider addressing inefficiencies in the current hiring ecosystem. The startup’s approach suggests a shift toward skills-based hiring practices rather than traditional credential-focused evaluation methods.
