Parataxis, a cryptocurrency hedge fund headquartered in New York City, has completed the acquisition of Seattle-based digital assets company Strix Leviathan. The merger brings together two active players in the digital asset trading space, creating what is expected to be one of the industry’s most experienced investment organizations.

The acquisition, first reported by Bloomberg, combines the expertise of both firms, though specific financial terms were not disclosed. Strix Leviathan announced the development on LinkedIn, emphasizing how the strategic union would generate substantial benefits for both their funds and investor base.

Strix Leviathan’s journey began in 2018 when Jesse Proudman, who had previously sold his company Blue Box to IBM, co-founded the venture alongside Sadie Raney. The company initially focused on providing cryptocurrency trading and management services to enterprise clients and institutional investors.

In its evolution, Strix Leviathan spawned Makara, a robo-advisor platform, in 2021\. Makara was subsequently acquired by Betterment the following year. After these developments, leadership transitioned to Sadie Raney, who took the helm as CEO.

Following the Parataxis acquisition, Raney has shifted her focus to Eve Wealth, another Seattle-based financial technology venture where she serves as CEO. The company positions itself as a comprehensive financial services network and investment platform.

The deal has resulted in personnel movements, with Strix’s Chief Investment Officer Nico Corderiro taking on a portfolio manager position at Parataxis. Meanwhile, Jesse Proudman has maintained his role as vice president at Betterment, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Parataxis, founded in 2019 by Edward Chin and Thejas Nalval, will integrate Strix Leviathan’s operations into its existing framework. The merger represents a significant consolidation in the digital assets investment sector, bringing together the technological and trading expertise of both organizations.

The acquisition reflects the ongoing maturation and consolidation of the cryptocurrency investment landscape, as established players seek to strengthen their market positions through strategic combinations. By merging their resources and expertise, Parataxis and Strix Leviathan aim to enhance their competitive position in the rapidly evolving digital asset management space.

This transaction marks another significant development in Seattle’s fintech ecosystem, which has seen various companies emerge, evolve, and consolidate in recent years. The city continues to serve as a hub for financial technology innovation, with companies like Strix Leviathan demonstrating the potential for successful exits through strategic acquisitions.

The merger brings together Strix Leviathan’s experience in
cryptocurrency trading and management with Parataxis’s established presence in the crypto hedge fund space. This combination is positioned to offer enhanced capabilities and services to
institutional investors and other market participants seeking exposure to digital assets.

By joining forces, the two companies aim to leverage their combined experience and resources to navigate the complex and dynamic cryptocurrency market landscape. The integration of Strix Leviathan’s operations into Parataxis represents a strategic move to create a more robust and comprehensive digital asset investment platform.

The acquisition underscores the growing importance of scale and expertise in the digital asset management industry, as firms seek to build more substantial operations capable of serving sophisticated institutional investors. It also highlights the continuing evolution of the cryptocurrency investment sector, as companies combine forces to create more established and capable investment organizations.
