Former Convoy executive Grant Goodale has accepted a new position as chief product and technology officer at Florida-based logistics company Ryder. The announcement came Tuesday as Goodale makes his return to the transportation technology sector.

Goodale previously co-founded and served as CTO of Convoy, a Seattle-based digital freight marketplace that reached a valuation of nearly $4 billion before ceasing operations in 2023. The startup, which he launched in 2015 alongside fellow Amazon alumnus Dan Lewis, developed technology to connect trucking companies with shipping clients and attracted investment from prominent figures including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos.

The opportunity at Ryder emerged through Andrew Berberick, who co-founded logistics technology company Baton before its acquisition by Ryder in 2022. According to Goodale’s LinkedIn post, he was approached to take over Berberick’s responsibilities at the company.

“I’m returning to what I’m passionate about – applying cutting-edge technology to the industry that enables modern life,” Goodale wrote in his social media announcement. While joining the Florida-headquartered company, Goodale will continue to be based in Seattle.

The move comes as Ryder, which reported revenue of $12.6 billion last year marking a 7% increase, expands its technology presence. The company established operations in Silicon Valley following its acquisition of Baton, a startup focused on improving trucking efficiency.

Goodale’s transition follows the career path of his Convoy co-founder Dan Lewis, who earlier this year joined Microsoft in a chief product officer role. After co-founding Convoy, Goodale initially served as CTO before moving to a chief experience officer position, stepping down in 2023. The company’s assets were later acquired by Flexport.

In other Pacific Northwest technology sector movements, e-commerce startup Shipium has elevated Geoff Tamman to the position of chief financial officer. Tamman, who joined the company in 2022, previously held the role of vice president of finance and operations after spending more than 12 years at Amazon.

Additionally, Seattle-based venture capital firm Graham & Walker has brought on Ryan Hughes as its new chief of staff. Hughes joins the firm from Goldman Sachs, where she spent nearly five years, and will be based in New York City.
