Several key leadership changes were announced across major technology companies in the Pacific Northwest this week. Bellevue-based advertising measurement firm iSpot has appointed Nipun Dureja as its new Chief Technology Officer. Dureja brings extensive experience from previous leadership positions at companies including DocuSign, Smartsheet, Providence Health and Services, Salesforce, Amazon, and Microsoft. In his new role, Dureja will lead engineering, quality assurance, infrastructure, security and data science operations at iSpot, which ranks sixth on GeekWire’s list of top private startups in the region.
In other executive moves, Expedia Group announced the upcoming departure of Chief Financial Officer Julie Whalen. According to regulatory filings, Whalen will continue in her position until a successor is named, with the transition expected to occur before February 17, 2025. She will also step down from her position on Expedia’s board of directors. This marks another significant leadership change for the Seattle-based travel giant, following CEO Peter Kern’s exit in May and the recent appointment of Ramana Thumu as Chief Technology Officer.
Microsoft has welcomed back former employee Isabell Sheang, who has taken on the role of group product marketing and go-to-product manager. Sheang, who previously worked at Microsoft from 2008 to 2016, returns to the company after a stint at VMWare where she served as director of product marketing and GTM. In her new position, she will spearhead global strategies for Windows Commercial, with a particular focus on developing a new category of AI-enabled Copilot+ PCs.
Additionally, Meta’s head of product for the FinTech product team, Adil Wali, has announced his departure to join Klaviyo as Chief Product Officer. The Seattle-based executive, who spent more than five years at Meta, described his time there as his “first real job” after two decades as an entrepreneur. Prior to Meta, Wali founded several companies including the Merit Foundation, Crowd Interactive, and FoxCommerce.
iSpot, which was recognized as a finalist for Next Tech Titan at the 2023 GeekWire Awards, continues to expand its presence in the advertising measurement space. The company’s acquisition of New York-based 605 last year marked its fourth acquisition in less than three years, demonstrating ongoing growth in the competitive ad measurement industry.
Expedia Group, which oversees popular travel brands including vrbo, Orbitz, Hotwire, Trivago, and Hotels.com, recently reported strong financial performance, meeting revenue expectations and exceeding profit forecasts in its third quarter. The company’s leadership restructuring comes as it continues to adapt to evolving market conditions in the travel industry.
These executive changes reflect the dynamic nature of the Pacific Northwest’s technology sector, as companies adjust their leadership teams to drive innovation and growth. The movements also highlight the interconnected nature of the region’s tech ecosystem, with executives often moving between established companies and startups, bringing their expertise and experience to new challenges.
Dureja expressed his commitment to his new role at iSpot, stating his focus on developing intelligent solutions for real-world challenges and his dedication to enhancing the company’s systems for improved efficiency and customer impact. Similarly, Wali reflected positively on his tenure at Meta, acknowledging the professional growth and insights gained during his time with the social media giant.
