Rebellyous Foods Secures $2.4 Million to Revolutionize Plant-Based Meat Production with Innovative Mock 2 System

Seattle-based food tech company Rebellyous Foods has secured an additional $2.4 million in funding, building upon its Series B round from 2023 when it raised $9.5 million. The company, which specializes in plant-based chicken alternatives, will utilize the new capital to expand its sales operations in 2025 and continue development of its innovative “Mock 2” production system.

The Mock 2 system, unveiled by Rebellyous in September, represents a significant advancement in plant-based meat manufacturing. This automated processing system operates continuously under chilled conditions to process dough substrate, capable of producing between 2,500 and 5,000 pounds of plant-based meat products hourly on a single line. The technology aims to achieve cost parity with conventional meat production while maintaining high-quality standards.

To bring this technology to market, Rebellyous has formed a strategic partnership with RMS Foods, establishing operations at a cutting-edge facility in New Mexico. The company’s founder and CEO, Christie Lagally, has emphasized the transformative potential of the Mock 2 system, describing its introduction as a defining moment for the future of food production. The technology is positioned to
revolutionize sustainable protein manufacturing and potentially influence global dietary patterns.

Currently, Rebellyous Foods’ products, which include plant-based nuggets, patties, and tenders, are primarily distributed to
approximately 275 school districts participating in the National School Lunch Program. This focus on institutional food service has helped the company establish a steady presence in the educational sector.

The company’s journey began in 2017 when Lagally, who previously worked as an engineer at Boeing, founded the startup. Her technical background has influenced the company’s approach to solving
manufacturing challenges in the plant-based meat industry. Since its inception, Rebellyous Foods has accumulated more than $30 million in total funding.

What sets Rebellyous apart in the competitive plant-based meat sector is its focus on manufacturing innovation.
