In a strategic move to strengthen its position in senior care technology, Denver-based Residex has acquired Seattle healthcare staffing platform Kevala. The acquisition, announced Monday, brings together Residex’s AI-powered clinical management capabilities with Kevala’s workforce optimization solutions, though financial terms were not disclosed.

Kevala, which emerged from Seattle’s Pioneer Square Labs in 2020, has developed Quin, a software platform that enables healthcare facilities to efficiently manage worker scheduling, labor pools, and credential tracking. The company has secured $21 million in funding since its inception, including a $4 million round in January 2021 and $12.1 million in February 2022.

The merger leverages Residex’s existing AI infrastructure, which handles resident health records, medication management, care planning, assessments, and clinical documentation. By incorporating Kevala’s workforce management technology, Residex aims to create a more comprehensive solution for senior living communities.

Todd Owens, Kevala’s co-founder and CEO, sees the acquisition as validation of their AI-driven approach to workforce management in healthcare. “By combining Quin’s workforce intelligence with Residex’s clinical expertise, we’re creating a powerful ecosystem that ultimately enhances the quality of life for residents,” Owens stated in the announcement.

Owens brings significant experience to the merger, having previously led several successful technology companies. His track record includes serving as CEO of TalentWise (acquired by Sterling Talent Solutions), Appuri (acquired by DocuSign), and Azuqua (acquired by Okta).

The acquisition comes at a time when healthcare facilities face increasing pressure to optimize their operations and address staffing challenges. As of April 2025, Kevala had grown to employ 28 people, demonstrating steady growth since its founding.

Residex’s acquisition of Kevala represents a significant development in the healthcare technology sector, particularly in addressing the complex operational needs of senior care facilities. The combined entity aims to deliver a more robust platform that streamlines both clinical operations and workforce management through advanced AI technology.
